Where we teach

We rent each pool for our classes, so the doors, the parking and the closing days are the pool's. Here is what to know before a first visit.

What each pool adds to ours

Each building sets rules of its own. They sit on top of our routines, not in place of them.

Recreation center pool

The center's lifeguard is on duty during our classes. Swimmers rinse at the center's showers, and the center closes the pool for its own holidays and repairs.

College pool

The college's lifeguard is on duty during our classes. The pool follows the college calendar, and the lunch-hour class for adults fits between the college's own lap swim times.

Retirement community pool

The community's lifeguard is on duty during our classes. The pool is warm and shared with residents, so we keep voices low and families wait in the lobby.

Plains winters

When the roads are bad

Snow and ice close roads before they close pools. This is what we do.

    Step 1: We watch the roads

    When the schools in Hastings close for snow or ice, we check each pool and decide whether the class can run.

  2. 02

    Step 2: We text families

    We text every family with a class that day, as early as we can.

  3. 03

    Step 3: We make up the class

    A class missed for snow, ice or a pool closing is made up in the same session, at any of our pools, space allowing.
