Your first visit
From the front door to a class
A placement visit is a short time in the water with an instructor, at the pool you plan to use, so we can suggest a level.
- 01
Step 1: Book a time
Choose a placement time on our enrollment page, or call. Tell us your swimmer's age and the pool closest to you, and say if you are not sure of the level.
- 02
Step 2: A short time in the water
Your swimmer gets in on the step or within arm's reach of the instructor while you watch from the pool side. The visit takes about twenty minutes, and a swimmer can get out at any time.
- 03
Step 3: Hear the level and the days
The instructor suggests a level and a cap color, tells you what they saw, and shows you the classes with room at that pool.
- 04
Step 4: Register for a class
Register from home on our enrollment page or at the pool door. Your swimmer's file and the first payment hold the place.
- 05
Step 5: The first class
Arrive ten minutes early, rinse where the pool asks, put on the cap and wait on the bench for the instructor.

What the instructor looks at
There are no right answers at a placement visit. The instructor notices how a swimmer gets in, how they float with support, how they kick and whether they like putting their face in, and picks the level where the first class will fit.
How your swimmer enters the water
Floating with support
Kicking and moving along the wall
Blowing bubbles and wetting the face

Bring
What to bring to the placement visit
A towel
One for your swimmer, and a dry one for the drive home in the cold.
Goggles
If your swimmer likes them. We have a few pairs to try.
Swimsuit or swim shirt
Swim shirts are welcome in every class, and a swimsuit under one is fine.
A grown-up
A parent or guardian stays in the building. Brothers and sisters can wait with them.
